That was the opportunity Frant CEP School seized for their Years 5 and 6 cohort. Looking to deepen their curriculum topic through an ambitious, collaborative project, Class Teacher Liezel Hurter brought her class to the PaintnGo studio for a high-impact, 2-hour masterclass in scale, historical visual representation, and large-format painting techniques. The goal? Move curriculum learning off small sheets of paper and onto a continuous 25-metre canvas—giving every pupil, regardless of academic ability, an inclusive platform to express themselves, retain key concepts, and produce a studio-quality outcome.  ## Act I: The Classroom Challenge ## ![Setting the Scene & Social Contrast (1837–1840s)](https://www.paintngo.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Blog/Inline%20Blog%20Image/Schools/Setting%20the%20Scene%20%26%20Social%20Contrast%20(1837%E2%80%931840s).png?width=500&height=350&name=Setting%20the%20Scene%20%26%20Social%20Contrast%20(1837%E2%80%931840s).png) Bringing the dramatic transformations of the Victorian era to life in the classroom presents a distinct practical test for teaching staff. Dense historical periods—spanning industrialisation, social reform, child labour, and global expansion—can easily lose their human narrative when limited to exercise books and desk-bound reading. On top of that, finding an activity that stretches high-attaining pupils while remaining fully accessible to children working outside the standard year-group curriculum requires a deliberate change in approach. Just as they would complete a learning worksheet in the classroom, pupils were guided by teaching staff to add their own custom drawings and painted details to match their lesson plan across four structured phases.   ### Toolkit & Materials Pupils worked with water-based paints, sponges, fine detail tools, and UV paints to bring their classroom learning to life across the studio walls.   ### Phase 1: Setting the Scene & Social Contrast (1837–1840s) Pupils explored the pre-sketched Victorian framework featuring Queen Victoria’s coronation and Brunel’s engineering achievements. We highlighted key vocabulary words and historical dates in UV paint, and the children completed the rest—highlighting their own artwork across all four zones. They brought the era to a close by rendering 1901 timeline markers and painting bold Suffragette protest quotes across the 1911 Census form, before stepping back to celebrate as the studio blacklights revealed glowing factory fires and hidden details.   ## Act III: Lasting Impact Back at School As every teacher knows, the real test of any trip is what sticks once the children are back at their desks. Weeks after returning to the classroom, Liezel saw first-hand how working on a 25-metre scale paid off in topic recall, pupil confidence, and lasting primary school memories.    ### 1. An Inclusive Experience: Accessible to Every Learner > "This experience was invaluable. Not only did it cement our work on the topic of the Victorians, but it gave children a lasting memory. One of our Year 6 leavers listed this experience as her favourite memory of primary school in our leavers' service. It is a fully inclusive experience, even for those children unable to access the year group curriculum." ### 2.
