6 Sessions | 1 Hour of Physical Creative Flow | The 2-Metre Vertical Canvas Experience.
There is a unique kind of magic that happens when a child moves away from the desk and onto a massive, vertical canvas. Most art happens on a flat, A4 surface—but big ideas need room to breathe.
Our Mural Art Club is designed for young creators (6–12yrs) who are ready to trade the small-scale for the studio wall. We provide the physical space to think big, move freely, and use professional tools on a scale a sketchbook simply cannot match. Over 6 weeks, our young muralists move from high-energy experimentation to commanding their own 2-metre section of the studio.
The 6-Week Journey: From the Desk to the Wall
Week 1:
Large-Scale Colour Observation
The Vibe: Spatial Awareness.
We’re moving beyond the "standard" paint set to understand how colour functions at scale. Working as a team, we’ll categorise the world into giant panels, then zoom in to paint life-sized objects. It’s about seeing the hidden colours in everyday things and blowing them up to a giant, architectural scale.
Week 2
Pattern, Texture & Pro-Tools
The Vibe: Vertical Creation.
Who says you only need a brush? We’re leaving the desk behind to use professional scrapers, tape, and sponges to fill massive grids on our 2-metre walls. This session focuses on the technical skill of transforming a large surface through rhythm, repetition, and bold physical movement.
Week 3
The Larger-Than-Life Portrait
The Vibe: Technical Proportion.
Using mirrors integrated into the studio walls, we’ll map out facial features and human proportions. Using professional-grade brushes, our artists will tackle the challenge of maintaining accuracy and detail on a scale they’ve never attempted before.
Weeks 4
Abstract Energy & Immersive Dots
The Vibe: Dynamic Masterclass.
We’re drawing inspiration from Art History’s most influential muralists. Artists will dive into the frantic energy of Jean-Michel Basquiat, the bold cut-outs of Henri Matisse, and the immersive dots of Yayoi Kusama to see how these legendary styles can transform a massive environment.
Week 5
Connected Narratives & Storytelling
The Vibe: Narrative Masterclass.
We study the work of Frida Kahlo and Chris Ofili to learn the ultimate secret of a great mural: how the background and the subject are one single, connected story. This session focuses on the "Big Picture," teaching artists how to make every inch of their wall part of the narrative.
Week 6
The Grand Finale – The Final Statement
The Vibe: Commanding the Space.
This is the big finish. Each artist applies their cumulative knowledge of colour, proportion, and pattern to create a final, large-scale self-portrait—a connected masterpiece that claims its place on the studio wall.
Mentorship from Experienced Artists & Art Club Leaders
Your children are in expert hands. This club is led by Jo Rutherford and Marium Zaidi, both of whom are highly experienced professional artists and seasoned art club leaders. They don't just teach drawing; they mentor kids in the physical language of muralism. Working at this scale requires a specific set of skills—spatial awareness, bold movement, and the confidence to claim a large space. Our leaders provide the perfect balance of technical mentorship and creative encouragement to help every child find their own unique voice.
